Torrone With Orange And Almonds

Torrone is considered as one of the oldest Italian sweets, very popular in many regions of the Peninsula, from Lombardy to Sicily. It is believed that the Italian torrone has Roman origins but another hypothesis would link the Torrone nougat to the Arabs. Finally, a legend would identify the first traditional nougat in Cremona, where a special almond and honey sweet was prepared by the chefs of the court for the wedding between Bianca Maria Visconti and Francesco Sforza. In this version, traditional Italian nougat is given a boost with the addition of two of the Island’s specialties: oranges and the prized pizzuta d’Avola almonds for a real Sicilian treat.
